The Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society will host Linda Bradbury at the meeting Tuesday, January 28th, at 6 PM at the Donald W. Reynolds Library. Ms. Bradbury will describe work that has been done to restore the Old Galatia Church, near Norfork. The historic building, constructed in 1900, had served the community for many years, but had fallen into disrepair. It was condemned in 2015. The program will describe the dedication and considerable restoration efforts by Ms. Bradbury, and members of the community, for the building to be added to the National Register of Historic Places, only five years later, in 2020.

 

Work was done in conjunction with the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program. The outside is completed, but work is continuing on the inside. The end goal is for the building to serve as an all-purpose community center. Donations can be sent to: Galatia Community Building, P.O. Box 103, Norfork, Arkansas, 72658.

 

The Historical Society is planning for a "Spring Open House" at the Historical Museum, 300 Bomber Blvd., April 12th.  This will be a major event, and details will be provided in the near future.
