Cotter, AR - The White River Marathon, hosted annually by Mountain Home Marathon, Inc.,
has announced an exciting change to its mission. Beginning in 2025, proceeds from the
event will benefit local nonprofit organizations within Baxter and Marion Counties through a
newly established application process.
For over 20 years, the marathon has supported the village of Katito, Kenya, through
donations to World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to addressing
poverty and injustice worldwide. Since its inception in 2003, the marathon has raised an
average of $14,100 annually, funding the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) program in
Katito and, more recently, the "Kenya WASH" program.
The White River Marathon will continue its tradition of supporting World Vision with a modest
donation, reflecting its ongoing commitment to global impact. At the same time, the marathon
is dedicated to championing local nonprofits in Baxter and Marion counties.
Supporting local nonprofits in Baxter and Marion counties allows us to make a tangible
impact close to home,' said a representative of the White River Marathon. 'We're excited to
extend our reach, support meaningful projects, and strengthen our community.
Nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status are invited to apply for funding by downloading
an application from the "Charity" tab on the marathon's website,
www.whiterivermarathon.com. Applications must outline specific projects or programs the
donation would support. The White River Marathon board will review submissions and
announce the recipient(s) in the spring preceding the annual race.
The White River Marathon, held every year in Cotter, Arkansas, attracts over 700 runners
from 30-35 states on the weekend before Thanksgiving. By reallocating proceeds to local
causes, the event aims to expand its positive impact and foster stronger community
connections.
